Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate is a historic wine producer located in the Constantia Valley, the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere. Originally part of Simon van der Stel’s Constantia farm established in 1685, the property was renamed Constantia Uitsig (meaning ‘Constantia View’) in 1941. The estate features 40 hectares under cultivation on decomposed granite and sandstone soils between Table Mountain and False Bay. The modern, glass-walled cellar was completed in 2018, creating a striking architectural feature on the property. Head winemaker Daniel Keulder focuses on creating wines that reflect the unique cool-climate terroir of Constantia, with an emphasis on world-class white wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Semillon. The estate practices organic farming principles, using cover crops and natural composting to encourage biodiversity. Constantia Uitsig produces two main wine ranges: the flagship Constantia Uitsig Collection and the Ex Oppido range, along with a Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine. The estate has transformed into a family-friendly destination featuring multiple attractions including Blockhouse Kitchen restaurant serving seasonal farm-to-table cuisine, La Grotto Ristorante offering authentic Italian dining, a Heritage Market with artisan food vendors, and a professionally designed bike park with 2.8km of trails. Wine tastings are available in a dedicated tasting room with various options including terroir tastings and vertical tastings. The estate is committed to sustainability and social responsibility, supporting education programs for farm workers and conservation initiatives protecting Cape flora and fauna.
