Hidden Valley Wine Farm is a gem to be discovered on the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain near Stellenbosch. The estate is the culmination of owner Dave Hidden’s long-standing dream, a winemaker by profession but entrepreneur by nature. Dave was introduced to this spot of land in the late 1970s by his Professor of Viticulture, who pointed out it was one of the best vineyard sites in South Africa. Heeding that 20-year-old remark, Dave purchased the land in 1998. The remote farm is uniquely positioned for premium wine production in two very different terroirs: Stellenbosch and Elim. The vineyards run up the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain at high altitudes, pampered by cool ocean breezes from the Atlantic Ocean. The modern gravity-fed cellar is built from glass, wood and stone, surrounded by vineyards, fynbos and 3000 olive trees. Hidden Valley is a proud WWF Conservation Champion, working with nature through ecological farming practices. Winemaker Annalie van Dyk, with experience in Napa California and France’s Loire Valley, creates elegant handcrafted wines following a philosophy of ‘Less is More’ – non-interventionist winemaking to express sense of place. The wine portfolio includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, red blends (Hidden Gems, Hidden Secret), Rosé, and Method Cap Classique. The Wine Tasting Center features an outside seating area with 180-degree views of Stellenbosch Winelands and indoor area with fireplace. The Deck at Hidden Valley is an eatery on a floating deck by a dam. The estate offers Bush Lodge accommodation, nature trails, cellar tours, and special Vineyards Sunset Wine Tasting experiences (September-April).
